Sign On to Hang Up on War! has been removed
As of 2010, we are no longer keeping an active list of telephone tax resisters on this website, but we maintain the site for information purposes and try to update it now and then. Since 2005 when the federal government was finally forced to stop collecting the tax on long distance calls, this campaign became more limiited. The federal excise tax is applied to local calls on landlines only and not on mixed use services such as cell phones. However, many individuals and organizations continue to refuse to pay this tax as a protest to military spending. The federal excise tax pays into the general fund of the federal budget and thus is some of the money parceled out to war.
If you would like to be in touch with other people who refuse to pay for war by refusing the telephone excise tax, other excise taxes, or the income tax, please email National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee (NWTRCC) or see our website.
You can also sign on publicly to the War Tax Boycott campaign, which includes income tax resisters, telephone tax resisters, and people who live at a low income so as to contribute as little as possible to the war system.
Thanks for your interest!
